Cinco De Mayo!

I had a fun day on Cinco De Mayo with my renters! They kindly invited me into my old sticks and bricks abode for Margaritas and FAJITAS!!! (Yum!)  We lounged out on the back deck braving the mosquitos and downing our De Mayo appropriate drinks while fishing was had in the lake by the young’uns. (Dammit, I don’t really fall into that category anymore)

Deck Margaritas

Here’s the crew for Cinco deck party. On the right is my amazing renter, Vickie, who has cooked for me no less that TWICE already in less than a week! She’s very sweet and thoughtful I must say. (I think I might just stay!)

Today I purchased a ‘selfie stick’ from Wal Mart. I could have used it for the above photo. I’m there, only behind the camera. I will used the selfie stick for photos while I travel so each photo I take of myself doesn’t have my head all big and my neck all scrunched from leaning away from the pic. I want people to be able to see that’s BEHIND me as well as my big head!

Line caught in the tree...

Here, the fishing line got caught in the bushes. His facial expression tells it all…

The biggest Bass

Woo Hoo! Got a big one! And they kept catching bigger and bigger ones! I thought we had a few bass in the lake, but wow! Not like this! Again, the look on his face says it all. Trixie wants to know what they just pulled out of ‘her’ lake.

He's got a story to tell his fish friends for sho

So weird.

Anyway, nothing much RV related here just wanted to share a nice night with new friends! We let the pups mingle as well. Vickie has 2 small dogs, and they all got along perfectly!

I am waiting for my truck camper top to come in before I launch. Will also take a test run to a campground in Defuniak Springs for a couple of days to get my feet wet before I go. I have been getting together with friends for the last time before my departure and it’s been truly enjoyable!

Next, I will do a travel/exploration post (mostly photos) about our own area! Point Washington State Forest. I can start travel blogging before I leave, right?

Bye Y’all!

Thank you for reading, more adventurous posts soon to come!

  1. It looks like you have a Wood Duck house in the backyard Kelly 🙂
Were you ever lucky enough to get some to nest?

    1. A wood duck house? I have never heard that phrase before- dare I ask, what does it mean? : ) I’ve nested, I’ve rested, I feeling revved up again, loooong at rv’ers jobs on sites like workers on wheels and workampers.com! STILL need to caulk this thing, should do it before I hit road!

  2. Sorry Kelly I didn’t see your question about the Wood Duck house 😦
People in our area, put up Wood Duck houses so they have someplace to nest.
They will nest in hollowed out trees and such.
If you look up the Wood Duck, they are a very beautiful and striking duck 🙂
What nested in your box in the backyard?
I simply love birds I can be gone all day with my binoculars and bird book and return back to camp with a huge smile from the days adventure 🙂

    1. I LOVE birds as well! Wood ducks are amazing, they look so fake! Of course, they are not, but dang. I have not had any luck with that nest. Not sure what it is but it was intended to attract bluebirds. I have had a nest barely started in there, and then they change their mind. Something is wrong with the placement of it or they would be all over it. I am leaving my birding books in my owners closet as they are Florida books, but I am looking forward to seeing all sorts of new birds across the country, and figure I can look online for what they are.
      I brought my binoculars! : )

  3. You’ll be amazed at the different birds you’ll see in your travels Kelly 🙂
If a person puts our a shallow pan of water in the desert its amazing the birds you’ll attract 🙂
We carry a Hummingbird feeder with us if we are going to be camped in the same area for a few days or more 🙂
Rilla cooks up our own nectar, we don’t add any red food coloring because it can cause tumors on the Lil’ Hummers 😦
We have one Bluebird house in the front of our condo and one out back 🙂
We have been lucky enough to get Tree Swallows nesting in the houses for about 10 years 🙂
They are such a joy to watch and listen too 🙂
We also have a little Chickadee house we put up a few years ago because the Chickadee wanted to build in the Tree Swallow house and the Swallows weren’t back yet 🙂
So we quick built a Chickadee house and mounted it to our deck railing 🙂
Just this last weekend the eggs must of hatched because both the male and female have been really busy, coming and going 🙂
The Tree Swallow out back finally mated last Sunday and I noticed this morning she is staying in the birdhouse to start laying her eggs 🙂
The house out front is ready, as the nest has been built. But we’re waiting for the Tree Swallows to mate, but the female isn’t ready yet, as she doesn’t let or isn’t allowing the male to do his thing yet 🙂
So our little nurser is super busy right now 🙂
We’ll keep you posted on what’s happing 🙂
I also wanted to tell you what we do whenever we spot a new bird is we write the date and place where we spotted the bird, next to the birds picture in our bird book 🙂
Its fun to look back and have wonderful memories being triggered by looking at your bird book and seeing past notations 🙂
    Enjoy Kelly

    1. Wow, what a great idea aboutThe water pan out in the desert! I never figured they would be attracted to that as I wouldn’t going to be many birds around without water anyway. I’m going to give it a try. How great that you have at least one nursery set up in the backyard! I love watching babies grow and get nurtured and hopefully make it into adulthood.

The journal is a great idea to but I’m not that patient or organized. I’ll let you know what comes of my water pan and if I do a hummingbird feeder as well. I thought about that for sure, doing a hummingbird feeder! Hugs!! I have to go ‘dump’. Eew. My first time doing it alone, without moms help! (Second time ever.)
      Hugs!!
